Larry Brooks writes that the Rangers are “zoned in” on Alain Vigneault to be their next coach, citing a well placed league source.
Brooks notes that Vigneault met with Rangers owner James Dolan in New York today, after meeting with management earlier in the week. He also mentions that Vigneault does not have an offer in his hand, but one is expected to come shortly.
Brooks states that Vigneault withdrew his candidacy for the Stars job last night, and the Stars appeared to be the Rangers only competitor for Vigneault’s services.
If, like me, you were hoping for Vigneault to become the next Ranger coach, this is obviously great news.
UPDATE: Darren Dreger
reports that the Rangers may have “had a very substantial offer on the table for Vigneault”. Dreger has since clarified that it was the Stars with the substantial offer, not the Rangers. So there is no conflict with Brooks’ report.
