Alain Vigneault has said he will have 2 or 3 assistants on his staff, and we already know one of them will be Ulf Samuelsson.
Pat Leonard reports that Newell Brown is the favorite to be the Rangers new assistant in charge of the powerplay. Brown had been running the Canucks powerplay as an assistant under Vigneault the past three seasons. The Canucks were 1st and 4th in the league on the powerplay in 2010-11 and 2011-12 before sliding to 22nd in the league last season.
Further, News 1130 out of Vancouver reports that they hear Scott Arniel will be heading to New York, presumably as an assistant under Vigneault. Arniel was head coach of the Chicago Wolves, the Canucks AHL affiliate, last season. He replaced Vigneault as coach of the Manitoba Moose in 2006 after Vigneault got the Canucks job. He was a head coach with Columbus for two seasons, missing the playoffs in both years. Arniel reportedly had a bit of a dispute with current Ranger Derick Brassard in 2011, but Brassard is the first to admit he has matured as a hockey player since then.
