Ranger Prospects Fall To Buffalo Despite Third Period Rally

The Rangers took their second loss in as many games at Traverse City, as Buffalo beat the club 6-5 in overtime.

The Rangers were outshot 9-8 in the first period, but Jeff Malcolm stopped all 9 shots to keep it scoreless after one.

Oscar Lindberg opened the scoring 4:58 into the second period, with his second goal of the tournament. The Sabres responded with 3 goals in an eight minute span, however, and led 3-1 after two periods.

Lindberg scored again early in the third to cut the lead to 3-2, but the Sabres responded quickly with two goals to expand the lead to three goals.

Danny Kristo then scored his first goal of the tournament and assisted on Lindberg’s hattrick goal to cut the lead to 5-4. The Josh Graves, who is on a try-out (not to be confused with Ranger draft pick Ryan Graves), tied the game at five. The three goals were scored in a span of less than two minutes. Eventually though, Nikita Zadorov scored with less than a minute left in overtime to secure the 6-5 win for the Sabres.

The Rangers were outshot 39-32 in total. Oscar Lindberg had 3 goals. Danny Kristo had a goal and 2 assists and Josh Graves had a goal. Jeff Malcolm stopped 33 of 39 shots.

The Rangers have a day off tomorrow, but are back in action against Columbus Sunday at 6:30.
