The Rangers lost 4-1 to Calgary last night, in their first of 4 preseason games this week.
In the first period, the Rangers looked as if they hadn’t done much over the past few days (which they hadn’t), but they looked much better in the second period and ok in the third.
It was nice to see Marc Staal get a goal, a powerplay goal, and overall nice to see the defense being very involved offensively. It did lead to some odd man rushes the other way for Calgary but everyone is still adjusting to the system so I am not too concerned.
A few players that stood out:
John Moore: He looks determined to prove his potential, he is skating all over the ice and active in all aspects of the game. He certainly held his own in that fight as well.
Danny Kristo: His hockey sense is evident whenever he is on the ice, he seems to think “shot” as opposed to making extra passes, which is something I’m sure Rangers fans will appreciate.
Overall I thought the Rangers played ok, after all it’s still the preseason. Ramo played well for the Flames, stopping many quality scoring chances. The Rangers hadn’t played for a while and should come out stronger tonight against the Oilers. Their lineup will be made up of (per Steve Zipay):
Forwards: Benoit Pouliot-Derick Brassard-Mats Zuccarello, Chris Kreider-J.T. Miller-Arron Asham, Marek Hrivik-Oscar Lindberg-Danny Kristo, Micheal Haley-Dominic Moore-Derek Dorsett.
Defensemen: Ryan McDonagh-Dan Girardi, Marc Staal-Conor Allen, Aaron Johnson-Tommy Hughes.
Goalies: Martin Biron, Cam Talbot.
