The Rangers placed Carl Hagelin on LTIR today, ensuring that the winger will miss at least the first 10 games of the season. That will give the Rangers a little bit of cap flexibility.
Hagelin had surgery on May 31 to repair a torn left labrum.
Ryan Callahan is also recovering from shoulder surgery, but he’s further along than Hagelin, so was not placed on long-term injury reserve. Callahan has been all but ruled out for the season’s opener, however.
– Daroll Powe, Stu Bickel and Brandon Mashinter all cleared waivers and will be assigned to Hartford. Vigneault spoke highly of Powe yesterday, and said that he “selfishly” hopes that Powe clears waivers so the Rangers can keep him in the organization. I would have rather been cleared of the cap charge and the contract, but that’s me.
– The Wolfpack made their roster cuts today, and among the cuts were Samuel Noreau, Josh Nicholls and Michael St. Croix. The three will hopefully all get a shot to prove what they can do at the AHL level at some point this season.
