Friedman: Rumblings Rangers Might Consider Trading Zuccarello

From Elliotte Friedman’s 30 Thoughts:

He and the Rangers are not close on a new deal and he can walk this summer. The simple move for New York is to keep him, make a playoff run and take their chances later. But, there are rumours they will consider trading him, see what they can get and, if necessary, flip that for something else.

I can’t prove or disprove those rumblings, but they’re out there.

It’s been pretty clear for a while now that the Rangers don’t value Zuccarello an amount appropriate for what he brings. The Rangers should be signing Zuccarello and fitting Marty St. Louis in with whatever’s left over, not the other way around.

Agreed… Zuccarello knows his value, and knows he has been more than fair and acting in good faith with the organization… If he doesn’t get he is worth he should walk… and he WILL walk. Remember, the last time the Rangers called his bluff he went to Europe.

Another thing to consider is what should Zucc’s motivation be to continue to play as hard as he does once it becomes clear the Team does not intend to sign him…? If he gets hurt in the playoffs without a contract, he is screwed…

Sather is not handling this very well…

Value him? Not when he wants north of $5MM for a guy with 12 goals and 23 assists or so, playing the top line with the leagues (nearly) leading goal scorer most of the year? I like what he brings but not for that Cap hit.
I agree about MSL. If he wants to stay he need to fit.
