The Rangers will face off against the Coyotes tonight at 7pm. This is the second and final meeting between these two teams this season. They played just about two weeks ago, when the Rangers won 5-1 in Arizona.
-They are 20-34-7 on the season, which puts them in third place for the McEichel Race. They are on a 7 game losing streak and are 1-8-1 in their last 10.
-After the trades yesterday, they hold one of the most talked about trade targets left on the market. Center Antoine Vermette, who scored against the Rangers last time out, is likely going to be traded for a price that is higher than he is probably worth, and as Jared mentioned yesterday hopefully the Rangers don’t go down that road.
-Ever since the Coyotes traded Dubnyk to the Wild Mike Smith has played the bulk of their games. He is 10-28-5 with a 3.27 GAA and .895 SV %. They recalled Louis Domingue from the minors, who has played 2 career NHL games (both this season) to be their second goalie.
-The Coyotes called up their 2012 1st round pick Henrik Samuelsson from the AHL yesterday. That means it is possible that he makes his NHL debut with his Dad Ulf coaching on the other bench.
-Defenseman Keith Yandle leads them in scoring with 4G and 36A for 40 points. Vermette (35) and defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson (30) fill out the top 3 for the Coyotes.
-They are 37-16-6 on the season. Their 80 points has them in second place in the Metropolitan division, 2 points behind the Islanders with 3 games at hand. They are 7-1-2 in their last 10 games. They are currently on pace for 111 points. At this point last season they were on pace for 93 points. They reached the 80 point mark 12 games earlier than they did last season.
-Rick Nash is expected to return to the lineup after missing last game with neck spasms. Reports from the morning skate indicated that the lines returned to the way they have been lately.
-Jesper Fast skated with a non-contact jersey, but AV indicated that he is still a practice or two away from returning to the lineup.
-Talbot was the first goalie off, and is expected to be in goal tonight for the Rangers. He is 11-5-3 with a 2.46 GAA and .914 SV %.
-AV indicated that there may be a defender who is ill, and therefore could not confirm the d pairs for tonight.
