Brooks: Rangers Expected to be Players for BU Goalie O’Connor

Larry Brooks reports the Rangers are expected to be in the bidding undrafted college UFA goalie Matt O’Connor out of Boston University.

Like Ryan Haggerty did before signing with the Rangers once he was ready to turn pro, O’Connor attended the Rangers’ development last summer. Brooks wonders if O’Connor would be willing to sign with a team where the backup role appears to be the peak end-game.

The Rangers have 49 SPCs signed for 2014-15, so they have space to add one more.

Brooks’ concerns have solid ground. Last week, Darren Dreger reported that 14 clubs had expressed interest in signing O’Connor, including as many as 5 promising NHL playing time this season.

O’Connor, 23, sported a 0.927 SV% in 27 games with BU this season.
