Elliotte Friedman reports that the Rangers, among others, will meet with pending UFA defenseman Mike Reilly tomorrow.
Reilly, who turns 22 next month, is eligible to be an UFA this summer, as he’s played one season of Junior A hockey and three seasons of college hockey after being drafted by the Blue Jackets in 2011.
Bob McKenzie reports that the Rangers are among the front-runners for college UFA goaltender Matt O’Connor.
An O’Connor signing isn’t imminent, however. The goalie is still in action for Boston University, and may visit with some finalists.
Larry Brooks reported that the Rangers were expected to be interested in the goalie a few weeks ago.
Larry Brooks reports the Rangers are expected to be in the bidding undrafted college UFA goalie Matt O’Connor out of Boston University.
Like Ryan Haggerty did before signing with the Rangers once he was ready to turn pro, O’Connor attended the Rangers’ development last summer. Brooks wonders if O’Connor would be willing to sign with a team where the backup role appears to be the peak end-game.
The Rangers have 49 SPCs signed for 2014-15, so they have space to add one more.
Bob McKenzie reports the Rangers are deep in discussions for Keith Yandle.
I’ve long been screaming for a legitimate offensive defenseman, and Yandle would be an amazing addition.
The price won’t be cheap, however, as McKenzie reports the asking price would be Anthony Duclair and a 1st round pick.
Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports that the Rangers are among the teams showing interest in Cam Atkinson.
Atkinson, 25, is contractually at a similar stage in his career as Carl Hagelin, as he’s set to be a RFA this summer and will be UFA-eligible after the 2015-16 season. I like him as a player, but getting him at the expense of Mats Zuccarello doesn’t sit well with me. Atkinson does have a certain not-Bozak quality that I find attractive, however.
From Elliotte Friedman’s 30 Thoughts:
He and the Rangers are not close on a new deal and he can walk this summer. The simple move for New York is to keep him, make a playoff run and take their chances later. But, there are rumours they will consider trading him, see what they can get and, if necessary, flip that for something else.
I can’t prove or disprove those rumblings, but they’re out there.
