My Dad, sister, and I attended all 7 rounds of the 2014 NHL Draft in Philadelphia. I attended the draft last year in New Jersey and had a great time, so I was excited that this year’s draft was in the area again.
The opening of the draft was certainly very unique. The Flyers’ fans all responded “sucks” after every team was announced and then went on to loudly boo Gary Bettman during the entirety of his opening remarks. This happened every time he stepped up to the microphone the rest of the evening.
With the 142nd pick in the draft, the Rangers picked undersized right-handed defenseman Tyler Nanne of Edina High School (Minnesota).
Nanne is 5’10” and 174 lbs. He is committed to Ohio State for 2015-16.
With the 140th pick in the draft the Rangers selected defenseman Daniel Walcott of Blainville-Boisbriand of the QMJHL.
Like Nejezchleb, Walcott is 20 years old and went undrafted in 2012 and 2013.
With the 122nd pick in the draft the Rangers picked right-wing Richard Nejezchleb of the Brandon Wheat Kings. Nejezchleb is 20 and was passed over in 2012 and 2013.
The Czech winger has played two seasons in the WHL. He stand 6’2″ and weighs 203 pounds.
With the 118th pick, the Rangers picked Russian goaltender Igor Shesterkin.
Shesterkin is 6’1″, 187 lbs. Red Line Report says he never gets beat by anything clean, only rebounds and deflections. They like his focus and puck handling, but suggest he could use a lot of work on his technique.
With one of the 4th round selections the Rangers acquired for their own 3rd round pick, the Rangers picked Ryan Mantha 104th overall.
Mantha is 6’5″, 225 lbs right-handed defenseman from Indiana of the USHL.
